No Traveller Returns
July 3 - 5, 8 - 12, 2025
It is winter, 1895 and the Mourne Valley Inn is chock full of guests who are anticipating the celebrations of the Lieutenant-Governor at his Manse. The fire is blazing in the hearth; outside, the snow is falling, Beneath this cheery exterior however, much darker currents are stirring. The snow develops into a fierce storm which traps the inhabitants of the Inn. A dastardly crime occurs. It is imperative to determine who is the culprit. It can only be one of them. But whom? And why?

Shakes-Beer Rides Again

Shakes-beer returns to the County in 2025 with all new comedic sketches based on the Bard's plays and characters. Lend us your ears for an evening and you'll learn how Romeo and Juliet actually met by being contestants on The Dating Game, how King Lear attempts to soothe his madness by visiting a modern shrink, and how Lady Macbeth's sleep-walking scene goes comically awry. All the world's a stage but the one at the Waring House has the most action.

The A.G. MacNeil woolen mill has been the mainstay of a small town for a century. The family owned business, run by generations of MacNeils is suddenly in need of a transition of leadership. Patriarch Jake is in the early stages of dementia. An offer to buy the business from an off-shore company is on the table. A business dynasty and the future of a small town: Who in the family can settle their differences and are willing to step into the key roles that are about to vanish?

This play's two characters are a man and a woman who exchange letters, but not marriage vows, in a warm and complicated friendship lasting 50 years. Because they choose others as mates, and live to regret it, Love Letters has a wistful tone: beneath the sparkle expected from Gurney, sadness and remorse.

The hay wagon stage of Théâtre Roulant will once again be situated at the Waring House near the roundabout during the 2025 summer season. Last Sunday, the theatre gave a preview at The Andrew in Picton of its three upcoming productions. Playwright and founder Conrad Beaubien was recovering after hip replacement surgery and could not attend, but nevertheless sent his greetings and thanks via a note read by his colleague John Burns. Mr. Beaubien thanked the actors, volunteers and board members for their support, and reiterated that the arts are an essential part of the community. “The arts contribute to the well-being in a troubled world, and storytelling thrives at the core of our being,” he wrote.
