Théâtre Roulant, Canada’s only horse drawn theatre caravan.
Appropriately for our rural based community it is a repurposed original Mennonite built square bale hay wagon from the 1960’s. It is now completely outfitted with a portable stage, lighting, sound gear, theatre black curtains and safety equipment on the inside offering approximately 160 square ft of space and a similar dimension of outer stage. Eight foot barn door openings on either side allow for inventive uses of the County’s natural scenic’s as backdrops.
Susie and Sarah, Belgian draft horses are our all-green two horsepower engine.
Spreading Joy
Two Horse Power Wagon - Our driver, Blaine is always happy to hitch up Susie & Sarah and take our show on the road. Travelling through towns and country roads, bringing childlike wonder and merriment to drivers and pedestrians along the way.
Our mandate as a professional troupe is to produce original works inspired by regionally inspired stories that are also universal in appeal. The work includes original music, all of which offers opportunities to further the craft of performers while building on the cultural industry of Prince Edward County.
Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that out theatre is situated on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Wendat and Haudenosaunee Peoples and adjacent to the Kenyen’kehà:ka (Mohawk people) community of Tyendinaga. We are grateful for the opportunity to create and meet here, and we thank all the generations of Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island who have taken care of this land for thousands of years.
Thank you / Nyá:wen / Miigwech.
